Introduction

The 4212 Oil Condition Monitoring System serves as an early warning system to detect wear in gears, bearings, and other metallic contacting surfaces.  The powerful magnet in the sensor attracts worn away particles and the sensor then outputs a signal proportional to the amount of particles.  The system distinguishes between Fine and Course particles and provides two separate signals.

Because the low cost justifies implementation on many machines, the system complements and enhances more complete but more expensive periodic oil sampling techniques. Wait until indications of wear increase then take an oil sample to be sent to a lab.

Continuous Outputs

The system can be configured to output 4 - 20 mA or 0 - 10 V analog signals which can be routed to switches, alarms, PLC's, SCADAS, or any device that can read analog signals.  These give real-time and continuous wear indication and not just periodic snap shots.  For more advanced systems, a CAN BUS option is available.

Display

The system can be configured to include a display. In addition to passing through the continuous outputs and alerts, the display gives a quick indication in segmented red/amber/green LED lights. The display can be placed near the machine for convenient walk around inspection.

Temperature and Dielectric Alerts

Along with the continuous outputs proportional to Fine and Course particles, High and Low Alerts can be chosen for temperature and/or dielectric. Since the dielectric constant of a fluid is influenced by its content, it can be used to watch for water and other contaminants. The sensor is placed at the bottom of the sump or reservoir. The water separates from the oil and sinks to the bottom where the sensor can pick up the dielectric properties of that fluid. 

Installation

The sensor may be mounted at the bottom of the reservoir or within the oil flow. Note, the dialectric sensing is only effective when the sensor is mounted at the bottom of the reservoir.

Model Selection

Selecting the appropriate model is straightforward.  With reference to the table below, select the output and whether a display is desired or not.  Note, the CAN Bus version is required to alert on both temperature and dielectric simultaneously. The 4-20 mA and voltage output versions alert on one or the other selectable in the field.

Then choose the type of fitting to match the installation hole.  Replace the "X" in the model number in the table above with A, B, C, D, or E.  For example, model number 4212-PK-045-A would have a M22x1.5 fitting.
